Vintage Quilt

This is an old quilt which has been sitting in a closet for years, collecting dust.  It is all done by hand, I believe by my grandmother, possibly in the 1930s or 1940s.   I can't use it as a bed cover, since I am allergic to dust mites and all our bedding has to be washed every week --- it would be rags in a few months.  I was planning to cut off a small piece as a keepsake and throw the rest away, but I couldn't bring myself to do it.  It is all stitched by hand!
I am thinking about putting it up on eBay; it would make a very nice wall hanging for someone who likes shabby chic decor.

First Spoonflower Design!

Last night I uploaded my first fabric design to Spoonflower:

The above is the 9" x 9" pattern tile.

When the pattern is repeated throughout a yard of fabric, it looks like this:

I am having it printed in their "Silky Faille" fabric, since I plan to make a scarf out of it; I should be getting it in a couple of weeks ---- it will be fun to see how it turns out!

Going Digital -- Set of 3 Printable Floral Notes

Finally got these floral note cards listed on my Seeing Eye etsy shop.  They are printable!

There are 2 versions of each card: one with a Bible quote on the back, and one with a plain back (with 5 different sentiments to print on the inside --- ranging from "Happy Birthday" to "With Sympathy").

Also included a template to make-your-own-envelope out of recycled brown paper grocery bags :)

Butterfly Rescue :)

Here are some pics of the chrysalis I rescued from the outside of the recycling can, and what came out --- a beautiful monarch butterfly!

Some bright yellow day lilies nearby, unfurling their petals --- reminded me of the butterfly being all folded up inside his little green house, and unfurling his wings.

We live in a world full of marvels, for those with eyes to see the handiwork of God.

Camping in the rain

Got back last week from ten days in a pop-up camper at Santa Rosa Beach and Grayton Beach in the Florida panhandle...  it rained EVERY SINGLE DAY.

There were tornado warnings one morning, and sheets and sheets of rain and wind, so we packed it up and left 2 days early.  The beach was just beautiful though (in between bouts of rain) and very few people there.

Big and bright hibiscus flowers in front of a restaurant we went to.

The view from the laundry room, which had Wi Fi, at the campground.  Spent some time here with my new iPad (which I love).

And these guys were so cute I had to take a picture of them --- some sculptures at the local library there.

Here is a chrysalis which I found Monday afternoon fastened to the recycling bin when I went to the street to dump our recyclables.  It would have been destroyed when the truck came in the morning, so I have put it in this jar and will watch it hatch out.  It is a beautiful thing:  lovely jade green with shiny gold accents...

Custom Pencil Child Portrait

Have decided to try custom pencil portraits of children.  Here is my new listing in my "JoyceAlice" etsy shop:

Not sure why it is so difficult to photograph pencil on white paper, but both my scanner and my camera make the paper look yellowed and shadowy.  Oh well, I guess there are limits to technology (or rather, to my knowledge of technology :)

Also have been doing some new jewelry:

Rescued Wingback

This is an Ethan Allen chair which I pulled out of a dumpster --- it was in terrible shape.  We just got it back today from getting it reupholstered at George Upholstery.  I think they did a great job!  also I love the fabric, which I got from JoAnn's at 60% off.  Really pleased :)

New Business Card

Well, I'm afraid I've neglected this blog lately.... but I'm back now!

Made a new business card this morning with Photoshop.  I love Photoshop  :)  even though I probably use only a tiny bit of what it can do.

Got tired of telling people I have FOUR etsy shops --- from now on I will just hand them one of these little guys and they can just "read all about it".
